An example of effective consumer engagement by HUCHS

28 Jan 2021 | Primary Care

In September 2020, the Hutt Union and Community Health Service (HUCHS) launched Te Kete Hauora Patient Advisory Team Workbook which has proven to be an innovative and successful tool in gathering high-quality feedback and engagement from members of their patient advisory group, Te Kete Hauora.

The creation of the workbook follows the successful co-design work that HUCHS initiated through Te Kete Hauora as part of the Health Quality & Safety Commission’s Whakakotahi programme in 2017.

The workbook paints a picture of the vibrant culture and community at HUCHS and demonstrates the organisation’s focus on hauora and wider whānau wellbeing. The workbook invites members of the patient advisory group to share their views on what would make the service work best and what they think equity and empowerment looks like in practice. The workbook also seeks to understand the unique expertise and lived experience each patient brings to their role on the advisory group, in order to ensure they can contribute to the things they are passionate about.

The workbook can be downloaded below for those interested to use as an example to co-design your own workbook with your patients and community.
