Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises that road construction work will continue on State Highway 2 between Waihī and Ōmokoroa next week, with potential delays just north of Katikati.

Road reconstruction work is being undertaken between Tahāwai Bridge and Willoughby Road from 7am – 7pm.

Periodic stop/go activities will be in place until Friday 5 February and a temporary speed limit of 30km/h applies through the site. The periodic closure of one lane is required to carry out these works safely for our workers and road users.

These works are part of the Waihī to Ōmokoroa safety improvements project. Other works along this SH2 corridor include ongoing shoulder widening between Kauri Point Road and Lindemann Road, Sharp Road and Sargent Road and Wainui South Road and Esdaile Road.

In addition to the project works mentioned above, there are also resurfacing works being undertaken at several locations on SH2 between Athenree Gorge and Te Puna as part of the Waka Kotahi summer maintenance programme.

Please plan ahead, take extra care, reduce your speed and follow directions of traffic management staff and signage.

Visit the interactive Waka Kotahi Journey Planner website (journeys.nzta.govt.nz(external link)) for the latest information on roadworks, traffic, road closures and detours to help plan your trip.

Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey this summer. Keep up to date with:
