Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists to plan ahead for eight weeks of stop/go traffic management on State Highway 2 between Petane Road and Rogers Road, starting Monday 25 January.

Contractors will be undertaking pavement maintenance work, including resurfacing and refreshing road markings, between the hours of 7am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday each week.

During this time, stop/go traffic management and a speed restriction of 30km/h will be in place.

“We will do our best to maintain traffic flows but due to the high volumes of traffic on this stretch of the state highway, delays of up to 15 minutes are expected so we’re advising motorists to plan ahead,” Senior Network and Journey Manager Helen Harris says.

“The summer months are the best time for maintenance work as daylight hours are longer and the warm temperatures and dry air over this period helps new seal stick to the road surface.

“We understand that delays might be frustrating for motorists but we ask that everyone remains patient and adheres to the speed restriction which is there for the safety of our road workers and all motorists.”

Traffic controllers will be in place to help ensure that businesses and residents located within the worksite will continue to have access to their property.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey. Keep up to date with:
