Heading to Marlborough these summer holidays and looking for something to do? Well look no further than our Summer Explorer Programme!
The Summer Explorer Programme is all about having some fun in the sun this holiday season. So, slap on your sunscreen, grab a hat and head out in to the great outdoors.
This summer will be like no other – with more Kiwis than ever out enjoying what our backyard has to offer. The Marlborough Sounds is an amazing and diverse location so get out and explore it.
Here are a few of the activities and events coming up:
Kaipupu Photography Workshop
9 and 16 January 2021
This workshop is aimed at beginners with a tips session indoors before heading out to the Sanctuary to test those skills. Please bring a camera (ideally an SLR but a ‘point and shoot’ is fine), tripod (optional), appropriate clothing, good shoes for walking, sunscreen, lunch and a drink. Let us know if you would like to attend but don’t have a camera as we may be able to loan one.
Price: $30pp (includes water taxi transport)

Pest Trapping Workshop
18 January 2021
Kick-off your community pest control project with a practical trapping workshop with helpful resource information. Our native wildlife needs three things – safety from predators, suitable habitat and enough genetic diversity for long- term resilience.

Rowans Forest Tours

Come and enjoy some time in the forest and learn about different plant species with our DOC biodiversity team – bring your lunch and enjoy the birdsong.

Walk to Cape Campbell Lighthouse
13 January 2021
Join the Marlborough Tramping Club in walking from Marfells Beach to Cape Campbell. This is a 14km return beach walk and suitable for families. Bring lunch and snacks, drinking water, waterproof/windproof jacket, walking shoes or boots.

Bird Safari, Wairau Lagoons
21 January 2021
Enjoy a guided walk, watching a variety of birdlife and other natural history delights at the Wairau Lagoons, 70 species of birds live in the lagoon area, including royal spoonbills, banded dotterels, pied stilts and many more. Come along, bring your binoculars, suitable shoes and clothing for the conditions and some food, water and sunscreen, a bird identification book if you have one.
