Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising road users of overnight on and off ramp closures on State Highway 1 (SH1) between Porirua and Newlands in the week commencing Monday 14 December 2020.
The closures will allow crews to install new signs and paint new road markings on SH1 ramps at Tawa, Churton Park, Johnsonville and Newlands.
Regional Transport Systems Manager Mark Owen says the works are part of ongoing improvements to the regional transport network.
“We know that there are small changes we can make that will help improve the reliability and efficiency of the transport network,” Mr Owen says.
“These new markings and signage are designed to help improve the flow of traffic from on and off the state highway network. We appreciate the patience of road users while our crews are hard at work putting them in place.”
Works will begin Monday 14 December. They will take place between 9pm and 5am the next morning, and are expected to be completed by 21 December (weather-dependent). Detour routes will be clearly sign-posted while works are underway.
“We’ve chosen to undertake this work at night when the road is less busy so that we can minimise disruption to motorists as much as possible. However, we know that there may still be some motorists affected by the closures so we’re advising people to please plan ahead,” Mr Owen says.
The planned activities are occurring on:
- SH1 Tawa Southbound off-ramp (the length of off-ramp and through the intersection towards the underpass heading to Tawa).
- SH1 Tawa Southbound on-ramp.
- SH1 Churton Park Southbound on-ramp.
- SH1 Newlands Southbound on-ramp.
- SH1 Johnsonville Northbound off-ramp (from just north of the Newlands northbound off-ramp to Johnsonville).
Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey. Keep up to date with:
