New mums will benefit from Franklin Local Board’s quick response grants.
Bellyful NZ, which started life in Pukekohe, has received a grant to help it continue its work.
Volunteers provide meals and support for new mothers across the area, working closely with Plunket, social workers, midwives and community organisations, using the community kitchen at Pukekohe’s St Patrick’s Catholic Church for food preparation.
Demand for Bellyful’s services has increased dramatically at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has seen donations of both food ingredients and cash to fund the operation decline.
Local board chair Andy Baker says the volunteers involved do a terrific job for new mums who must be grateful to see a friendly face and have a meal delivered while they cope with a new baby.
