Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises overnight Stop/Go traffic management will be in place on State Highway 1 through Putāruru for four nights this week as part of pedestrian safety upgrades in the town centre.

The Stop/Go will operate between 5pm and 7am on Sunday 22 (last night), Monday 23, Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 November (weather dependant), with delays of up to five minutes expected. Daytime works will continue during this period, with two lanes of traffic and a temporary speed limit of 30km/h.

Waka Kotahi is also planning a full road closure and detour on Thursday 3 December between 7am and 5pm, to be confirmed closer to the time.

This closure and the above night works are intended to assist Waka Kotahi contractors with an early completion date for the pedestrian safety upgrade works, minimising disruption to local business in the lead up to the busy festive season. Contractors are currently hoping to finish up on Friday 4 December – one week ahead of schedule, dependent on weather and other unforeseen circumstances.

During the closure, southbound traffic will be detoured via Neal Street, Commerce Street and Market Street. Northbound traffic will be detoured via Kensington Street and Mackenzie Street.

The shops within the detour area will still be accessible to pedestrians at all times, with all parking outside of the work zone open for parking as normal.

Waka Kotahi thanks motorists, local businesses and the community for their patience while we undertake these important safety works.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey this summer. Keep up to date with:
