Tākaka Hill Road, SH60, will be closed for five nights from this Sunday night to all traffic between Riwaka and Upper Tākaka for road resurfacing and other essential road maintenance works, says Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.

There will be a brief middle of night opening for essential travel at 12.30am (Tākaka to Nelson) and 1am (Nelson to Tākaka).

The closures will run from Sunday 22 November to Thursday 26 November.

  • The first night closure on Sunday, 22 November, will be from 9pm-5.30am on Monday.
  • The remaining four closures (from Monday to Thursday, 23 – 26 November) will be between 7pm and 5.30am.

Waka Kotahi encourages people to avoid using the road during these night closures if possible, but is allowing the middle of the night passage time ie 12.30am (Tākaka to Nelson) and 1am (Nelson to Tākaka).

Emergency services will always be allowed through.

In the event of bad weather, this work will be carried out on the next fine day.

Thanks to all Tākaka Hill road users while this work is underway.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey. Keep up to date with:
