A new water storage reservoir in Northland has become the first project approved under the COVID-19 Recovery (Fast-Track Consenting) Act 2020.
The Matawii Water Storage Reservoir is intended to provide drinking water for Kaikohe, and to support the development of Northland’s agriculture and horticulture sector.
The applicant, Te Tai Tokerau Water Trust, sought consents related to earthworks, land use and water, including for the taking and damming of water.
An expert consenting panel has approved the application and set conditions.
The Environmental Protection Authority provides advice and administrative support for the panel convener and expert consenting panels, which are appointed by the convener. It is not involved in decision-making.
