University of Canterbury (UC) has joined the top 10 national carbon reducers in Toitū Envirocare’s 2020 list, announced today.
Together, the top 10 prevented 55,979 tonnes of carbon going to the atmosphere. UC was fourth on the list with over 6,000 tonnes of carbon reduction.
Toitū aims to accelerate the reduction of carbon emissions in Aotearoa New Zealand, through collective action.
The combined reduction for 2020 is roughly the same as taking 33,000 cars off Auckland streets for a year. If every household and business cut carbon by 26% over the next few years, Aotearoa New Zealand would be well on its way to the national goal of net zero by 2050.
