Groups keen to make a difference in the Hibiscus and Bays area can apply for this year’s local board community grants.
Chair Gary Brown says since COVID-19, changes have been made to reflect community feedback and align the grants programme to board priorities.
“The programme aims to empower people to shape where they live. Our focus is on our economy, well-being and social connectedness because resilience for business, communities and the environment, goes hand in hand with economic recovery.”
Deputy chair Victoria Short says grants encourage collaboration and a sense of community.
“They help bring individuals and groups together to deliver events or projects that make our communities even better places to live.”
This year’s programme has been simplified to remove some categories and rounds. For a project this year, applicants should apply by 21 August and for amounts between $2000 and $10,000.
The second round opens on 15 February for projects in 2021. Groups can only receive one grant each financial year.
- placemaking, including activities in town centres
- leisure or sports opportunities encouraging people to be active
- youth development, participation, engagement
- family support, activities where older adults can connect and participate
- artistic and creative opportunities
- sustainable initiatives that protect and enhance the environment.
