Residents of all ages and interests are invited to have their say on how 130 parks and reserves are managed across the Devonport-Takapuna local board area.
The new Devonport-Takapuna Local Parks Management Plan will guide the management of local parks and reserves within the area, except land owned and managed by Department of Conservation (most of Fort Takapuna) and the Tūpuna Maunga Authority (Takarunga / Mount Victoria and Maungauika / North Head).
Devonport-Takapuna Local Board Chair, Aidan Bennett, says feedback provided by residents on what they value in their local parks will inform the new draft local parks management plan.
“It’s important we hear what people think because as a local board we make decisions that impact how the parks can be utilised, from granting leases to sports clubs or community groups, to deciding if a commercial lease or private use of public open space is appropriate or not.”
“As a result, it’s vital that we gain community feedback both here and to our new draft local board plan consultation so that those views are seen, understood and considered accordingly when it comes to decision making,” says Bennett.
The draft local parks management plan is being prepared in accordance with the Reserves Act 1977. Once adopted, it will replace all previous reserve management plans. The information gathered will also be shared with the local board to help them finalise their new local board plan.
This consultation is now open and runs until Wednesday, 26 August 2020.
