Virtual Open Day will allow prospective students to tour the campus online.
For the first time the University of Otago is holding a Virtual Open Day for prospective students and their families to explore everything Otago has on offer, from home.
The Virtual Open Day will include short video presentations from more than 100 academics, video introductions to the residential colleges and the Locals programme, information about scholarships and a live-chat for attendees to ask questions.
The Virtual Open Day is being held on 23 July from 3:30pm to 7:30pm.
Otago Events Manager Jasmine Millar says the University was determined to provide a worthwhile experience for prospective students and their families as they got a taste of what Otago life has to offer.
To prepare for the day the marketing team has facilitated the filming of more than 100 academic and pastoral presentations to be viewed.
“The initial plan was developed when we thought we would not be able to hold any version of on-campus Tertiary Open Day.
“We’re incredibly happy we can provide both experiences. Virtual Open Day is accessible to those prospective students who, for whatever reason, may not be able to attend in person.”
There are plans to make Virtual Open Day an annual event.
The Dunedin On-campus Open Day with the University and Otago Polytechnic will be held on 10 August from 9:00am to 3:30pm.
The On-campus Open Day gives prospective students and their families the opportunity to explore the University and Polytechnic and discover what life is like as a student in Dunedin.
“On-Campus was intended to be a scaled-back version of the normal Tertiary Open Day. However, when the COVID-19 gathering restrictions were lifted we realised we were going to be able to hold the full day.”
The change gave the events team two months to plan the day, Ms Millar says.
Attendees can take a campus tour, explore the residential colleges, attend academic presentations and talk with staff from across the University at the Expo.
