Congratulations to the 18 participants who completed this year’s Health Quality & Safety Commission mental health and addiction (MHA) quality improvement facilitator course. The graduation and celebration event was held online due to COVID-19 on 19 March 2020.
Through the course, participants learn about quality improvement methodologies and tools to help them implement quality and safety improvement projects in mental health and addiction services.
The course is led by the team at Ko Awatea and course facilitators include Suzanne Proudfoot and Ian Hutchby (both Ko Awatea), and Roz Sorensen and Jacqueline Ryan (both Commission national MHA quality improvement programme).
The course covers topics such as process mapping and Ishikawa cause and effect diagrams to plan–do–study–act (PDSA) tests of change, run charts and data analysis. Each participant applies the knowledge learnt to one of the three MHA quality improvement programme priority areas currently underway:
- Aukatia te noho punanga: E whai ana ki te whakakore i te noho punanga i mua o te 2020 | Zero seclusion: towards eliminating seclusion by 2020 (minimising restrictive care)
- Te tūhono i ngā manaakitanga, te whakapai ake i ngā whakawhitinga ratonga | Connecting care: improving service transitions
- Te ako mai i ngā pāmamaetanga me te wheako tāngata whaiora me te whānau | Learning from adverse events and consumer, family and whānau experience.
