Rental price indexes: June 2020

The rental price indexes measure the changes in prices that households pay for housing rentals.
Key facts
Monthly change
In June 2020 compared with May 2020:
- the index for the stock measure of rental property prices rose 0.1 percent
- the index for the flow measure of rental property prices rose 0.3 percent.
Annual change
In June 2020 compared with June 2019:
- the index for the stock measure of rental property prices increased 3.4 percent
- the index for the flow measure of rental property prices increased 0.2 percent.
Stats NZ has found a small error in the long time series for the rental price indexes. The error is minor and has only a negligible effect on the monthly and annual percentage movements in the stock measure of the rental price index. It is not expected to have an impact on the headline consumers price index due for publication on 16 July 2020.
We will complete our usual checks and correct the data no later than the July rental price indexes, which are due for publication on 13 August 2020.
