A new destination playground has been completed and opened in time for the school holidays at Windsor Park, Devonport.
At its centre is a 7.9-metre high play tower inspired by the historic Bean Rock Lighthouse.
Surrounding the tower is an array of coastal themed play equipment and features, including an inter-tidal-reef-themed group spinner and rocker, balance springers, a crawl tunnel and rope climb, an air swing, a three-bay swing and more.
The new playground is significantly larger than the old one and features equipment suitable for a wider range of children, from pre-school age, up to 12 years of age.
“The project is the latest council-delivered project to enhance the charm and character of Devonport,” says Devonport-Takapuna Local Board Chair, Aidan Bennett.
“The board invested appropriately to ensure its unique design befitted its unique location on the waterfront and delivered on the feedback we received from the surrounding community.”
“I want to specifically acknowledge the work of the previous local board and our Auckland Council facilities team for making this sensational playground a reality. Our youngsters are going to get so much joy from this community asset for years to come.”
