Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises State Highway 2 is down to one lane with Stop/Go traffic management in place between Stanley Road and Fraser Road in the Waimana Gorge, while the impact of recent rainfall on the slip site that closed the Gorge July last year is investigated.

The current lane closure is on eastbound lane and there is also a 30km/h temporary speed limit in place. Given the unsettled weather forecast in the area, there is potential for a full road closure to be required.

Stop/Go traffic management will remain in place overnight until at least 5pm tomorrow, with the lane closure switching to the westbound lane while further survey and investigation takes place. Depending on the findings of the investigation, traffic management may remain in place or, if necessary, the road may need to close.

The lane closures will not impact on over-dimension traffic movements, but care is advised when navigating the work site.

Motorists are asked to plan ahead, allow extra time for their journeys and consider alternate routes.
