Dear [name redacted]

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION

Thank you for your email of 19 March 2020.

You have asked to be provided with data for the four most widely used medicines for each of the following drug classes:

  • ACE Inhibitors
  • Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs)
  • Beta Blockers
  • NSAIDs
  • Diuretics.

We have interpreted your request as relating only to funded use of the above medicines in the community

The information you requested is attached as an appendix to this letter, for both the 2018 and 2019 calendar years.  This data ranks the medicines in each class according to the number of individual patients who were dispensed it during each calendar year.  As is indicated above, this data does not account for use of the medicines in District Health Board Hospitals or their use in the private market (i.e. by patients who elect to self-fund their medicines).

Your request has been considered pursuant to the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA).  We are making our information more freely available, so we will now publish selected OIA responses (excluding personal details) on our website.  Please get in touch with us if you have any questions about this.

We trust that this information is helpful, and we wish you and your group well with your studies this year.

Yours sincerely

Rachel Read
