We have heard from Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern today that Aotearoa/New Zealand will commence a staggered move to Alert Level 2 from Thursday 14 May.
In line with the Government advice, EIT students and staff will continue to study and work from home, as much as possible. This means that unless there is an absolute requirement for students to be on campus to meet their course learning outcomes, we expect distance learning to continue. There are practical aspects to many of our programmes, and where specialised on-campus facilities are needed to ensure that you complete your qualification, you will hear from your School or Programme Coordinator, if you have not already heard.
Please do not come onto campus for your programme learning until you have been notified by your EIT School or Programme Coordinator.
You will either have already heard or hear from them by Wednesday May 13. If you have not heard from them, please contact your Programme Secretary.
What is open?
Some EIT facilities and services will open up for students.
Physical distancing markers will be in place and we ask that you please observe these when talking to EIT staff. You may also be asked to sign in when you go into areas like the main reception and library. This is important to ensure we are able to contact you later if needed.
EIT Hawke’s Bay – the Campus is open but not all facilities will be operational as many students and staff will continue to learn and work from home.
EIT Tairāwhiti – the Campus is open but not all facilities will be operational as many students and staff will continue to learn and work from home.
EIT Auckland – the Campus will remain closed. There is access only for the English Language students and teaching staff. Students are not able to visit the campus to use Wi-Fi. Student support will continue to be provided online.
Regional Learning Centres – the centres will re-open on Thursday May 14. The Maraeanui Learning Centre will reopen Monday May 18. All will operate from 9am – 2 pm.
EIT Accommodation – Students can relocate to their accommodation.
What information do I need to know before returning to campus in Alert Level 2?

What can I do to keep myself safe at Alert Level 2?
1. Physical distancing. Ensure that you continue to keep a one metre distance from others if you are together for 15 minutes or more. Ensure you distance yourself two metres from people you don’t know.
2. Contact tracing. Keep track of where you have been. At EIT, we will have registers in main spaces, your tutors and lecturers will keep attendance records. This is so that EIT and the DHB can get in touch with you if needed. You also need to track your own travels from your home.
3. Hygiene. Remember to wash your hands frequently, or use hand sanitiser. When washing hands, wash with soap and water for 20 seconds. Please do not come to EIT if you are sick.
