Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises surface treatment works are planned for a small section of State Highway 2 near the Wairoa River Bridge tomorrow night.

Contractors will be working on the section of SH2 from Wairoa River Bridge to Taniwha Place from 7pm until 6am, however may finish earlier than planned.

Bay of Plenty Transport Systems Manager Rob Campbell says this work is part of Waka Kotahi’s standard maintenance programme and will be completed under strict Alert Level 3 guidelines.

“Contractors will be completing a scrub coat treatment on this section of state highway. This treatment is designed to fill in any small bumps and holes in the road and create a smooth surface.”

During the works, traffic travelling through the site will be managed using Stop/Go traffic management with a 30km/h temporary speed limit in place.

Minor delays are expected.

Mr Campbell reminds motorists that work at Alert Level 3 does not look like pre-pandemic work.

“A range of new measures are in place to ensure this work can be done safety, to protect our people, the people in their bubbles, and road users.”

He asks people to be patient and respectful to roadworkers and look out for their safety and wellbeing.

“These people are stepping out of their bubbles to do work that keeps us all safe.”
