EIT’s School of Hospitality team came up with a “lockdown kai competition” to keep students engaged over the Easter term break.

Students are able to enter three different categories,

  • Bistro Style (for Hawke’s Bay and Tairāwhiti Level 4 Cookery students),
  • Café Style (for Hawke’s Bay and Tairāwhiti Food & Beverage students, Bakery students and Marae based students) and
  • Modern Cuisine (for Hawke’s Bay Level 5 Advanced Cookery or Patisserie students).

Students were asked to upload their photos or short videos to their class Facebook page. The videos must show the preparation and cooking methods along with the final presentation of the dish. Judges will also acknowledge the level of creativity and innovation.

Glenn Fulcher, Head of School for Tourism and Hospitality, says “As our students are currently not able to come on campus to do their practical learning, we have come up with some innovative teaching methods and ways to keep them engaged. With all the home cooked meals happening, we have put together a mini competition to be proud of the great kai our students are cooking in their home bubbles.”

Students can enter as many times as they like. The competition closes on 24 April, the winners of the supermarket vouchers are announced on 29 April.
