Whangarei’s motorsport lovers will have to build their anticipation for another year before the next Whangarei Festival of Motorsport.

The Festival of Motorsport’s events have been called off this year because of the lockdown to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

“It has been a pretty sad time for people holding events across the country,” said Council’s Venues and Events Manager Carina de Graaf.

“The events usually run from mid-April to mid-May and are advertised in a booklet and online via Facebook, Eventfinda and Council websites. We were getting everything organised and suddenly had to contact everyone who would have normally advertised their event to say it was cancelled.

“Even though they had already put a lot of work into their events, organisers have been supportive of government directives and are keen to ensure people in our community stay safe and healthy throughout the pandemic and are looking forward to staging their events in 2021.”

Mrs de Graaf said there was every intention for the event to go ahead next year.
