Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising that State Highway 2 over the Remutaka Hill will be closed for essential maintenance work for one night on Sunday 5 April, from 9pm until 4am Monday 6 April.

This is part of the Transport Agency’s critical state highway maintenance work, which will continue to be carried out in order to ensure the safe movement of essential goods and to provide support for lifeline functions during New Zealand’s Covid-19 response.

The full closure of the Remutaka Hill road is required to ensure the safety of the crews as they undertake essential maintenance and slip prevention works on the steep, narrow road.

All contractors and suppliers have health and safety plans in place to ensure that all work is carried out in line with Ministry of Health Covid-19 guidance.

Access will be available for emergency services throughout the closure and a limited shuttle van service can be booked for people providing essential services who need to get across the hill. These people are advised to email remutaka@nzta.govt.nz as soon as possible.
