Essential asphalting works will be completed on State Highway 3 (Leach Street) between Hobson street and Coronation Ave from Wednesday 25 March. This work is expected to take eight days to complete.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency Systems Manager Ross I’Anson says the work will be done  between 9am and 9pm to help minimise disruption to traffic.

“This road is a key link into the central business district and is very busy in the mornings, so to help prevent traffic backing up and keep everyone safe we will work outside of the morning peak.

“Both lanes on the one-way system will remain open for the duration of the works but parking will not be permitted on the section of highway.  A temporary 30km/h speed limit will be in place throughout the works.”

Adjacent businesses will still be open for business and accessible but the entrances to Novotel and Plymouth International on SH3 may be affected for a short time. Signs will be in place advising hotel guests and visitors to access Plymouth International via State Highway 45 and Novotel via Hobson Street during these times.

We will also need to close the Hobson Street right hand turn from Courtney Street to Leach street (the ‘Hook’ road around the Plymouth Hotel) on 25 and 26 March. A signposted detour will be in place.

“While we have put measures in place to limit disruption during these works, there are likely to be delays. Please avoid driving through the area if possible and if you are using the route, allow extra time for your journey. We encourage the community to continue to support local business in the area during these works,” says Mr I’Anson.

“We appreciate your patience while we carry out this essential road maintenance.”

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the evolving COVID-19 situation, some road works may change at short notice. We will always endeavour to provide the correct and most up to date information but apologise in advance if works should change.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey this summer. Keep up to date with:
