A 24/7 lane closure with Stop/Go traffic management will remain in place on State Highway 1 at Te Pōporo/Bulli Point until Sunday 29 March, when the retaining walls being built either side of the Point will be complete.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises that from 29 March night closures will resume to seal the area around the new retaining walls and complete other finishing work near the Point. This means that SH1 will close between 7pm and 5am from Sunday night 29 March until Friday morning 3 April and then again from Sunday night 5 April until Wednesday morning 8 April.

The road will be open to two lanes during the day from Monday 30 March.

When the closure is in place traffic will be detoured via State Highway 41, State Highway 32 and Poihipi Road from Turangi to Taupō, with the southbound detour the same route in reverse. This will add approximately 45 minutes to a journey between Turangi and Taupō.

Through traffic on SH1 heading between Turangi and Tokoroa should detour on to SH41 and then remain on SH32 through Whakamaru.

The Transport Agency thanks motorists for their patience while we complete this important work to strengthen the road at Te Pōporo/Bulli Point.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey this summer. Keep up to date with:
