Auckland Council’s response to COVID-19 is stepping up.

First and foremost, we continue to take the advice of the Ministry of Health, which is leading New Zealand’s COVID-19 response.

We can reassure Aucklanders that council services and facilities are currently operating as usual. This includes services such as rubbish and recycling, and public facilities including our pools, gyms, libraries, and halls. Any changes to these services will be widely publicised.

It is a very fast-moving situation, and our staff are planning ahead to try to ensure that the essential services we provide continue to be delivered to all Aucklanders. We are aware that the situation with our workforce may change, and are discussing contingency plans with all our teams, including our contractors and suppliers.

Auckland Council has cancelled and postponed a number of events across the region, following the government’s decision to ban all gatherings of 500 people or more. We will continue to assess events as the situation evolves.

As well as considering the impact on our communities, as an organisation we are looking after the health and wellbeing of our people. We are well prepared to work from home or remotely where that is possible. The recent fire at the International Convention Centre saw us adapt as an organisation to having to work differently and tested our readiness.

At this stage there are no changes to our consent or building inspection processes, but we are ensuring our frontline staff take extra precautions, and again putting contingency plans in place.

Auckland Transport has reiterated that public transport services continue as usual, and it is prepared for any escalation or changes.
