Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising that the State Highway 4 public information sessions planned for 23 March in Raetihi and 24 March in Whanganui will be postponed due to concerns surrounding COVID-19.
Regional Transport Systems Manager Ross I’Anson says the Transport Agency will continue to update the public on work across the highway, including progress on identifying the preferred option for the permanent reinstatement of the section of highway at Te Ore Ore damaged in the October 2019 slip.
“We appreciate there has been a high level of interest in these sessions and our team was looking forward to chatting to locals about the progress being made on the highway, however we need to prioritise people’s health and safety.
“Face to face engagement is not appropriate at this time so postponing the sessions is the right thing to do,” Mr I’Anson says.
“We are looking at getting new information and updates into a special edition of our State Highway 4 printed bulletin, the project website and on social media, so we encourage everyone to keep an eye out for those.
“There’s also the fortnightly newsletter that people can subscribe to via email which is a useful way for locals to stay in touch with the progress on the highway.
“We would like to thank the community for their patience and support, and urge everyone to follow the Ministry of Health advice on how to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.”
