The New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union is welcoming the decision to repurpose a portion of the Provincial Growth Fund for COVID-19 relief. In response to Shane Jones’s confirmation that some funding will be reallocated, Taxpayers’ Union spokesman Jordan Williams says, “Given the seriousness of the crisis, this is the obvious way for the Fund to be spent.””By the end of this week, Minister Jones will have been briefed on how much money can be repurposed for COVID-19. Our stance is simple: every single dollar that can be repurposed, should be.””It’s wrong to continue with handouts for favoured businesses at a time when everyone is facing an economic downturn.”
