Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises that minor delays are expected on a section of State Highway 30/Te Ngae Road this week.
From Thursday 12 March contractors will be installing new watermains and undergrounding powerlines on the section of SH30/Te Ngae Road near Hume Pine as part of the Eastern Corridor Stage One project.
The first six months of the Stage One project, from February to July, involves installing new services along the corridor between Sala Street and Iles Road.
Most of this work can be completed in the road shoulder, however because the shoulder at this location is quite narrow, contractors need to use some of the road to complete the work.
Between 9am and 3pm the eastbound lanes will be narrowed to make room, and a 30km/h speed restriction will be in place for the safety of road users and contractors.
Minor delays are expected for motorists using the corridor.
Cyclists and pedestrians are advised to use the southern side of the road or take an alternative route.
Outside of this time the road will operate as usual. The work is expected to take 5-8 days to complete.
During March people will also notice work at the Sala Street intersection as earthworks are completed for a new left-turn slip lane from Sala Street onto Te Ngae Road.
