Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises westbound traffic will be diverted between Totara Street and Tasman Quay on State Highway 2 Hewletts Road from 11.30am this morning for vehicle recovery.
A truck carrying a container tipped over at the corner of Totara Street and Hewletts Road earlier this morning. Vehicle recovery is expected to take around one hour.
Eastbound traffic will be down to one lane between Tasman Quay and Totara Street. Westbound traffic will be directed into the left-hand eastbound lane between Totara Street and Tasman Quay, where they will return to the westbound lanes.
All southbound traffic on Totara Street will be directed to turn left, with those wishing to head west toward Tauranga required to continue east down Hewletts Road to the Newton Street roundabout, where they will be able to turn around to head west down Hewletts Road.
Traffic lights at the Hewletts Road/Totara Street intersection will be flashing orange. Please follow the directions of manual traffic controllers on site and take extra care.
Motorists are encouraged to delay their travel or use alternative routes.
