It is exciting to see the growth of AUT’s cousin Western Springs College – Ngā Puna o Waiōrea, says Professor Pare Keiha, AUT’s Pro Vice-Chancellor for Māori Advancement.
The two institutions were once one in Seddon Memorial Technical College before its secondary and tertiary divisions separated in 1960. In 1964 the technical secondary school moved to Western Springs.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern opened a major redevelopment of the high school and its new co-governance model on February 21.
Professor Keiha led a delegation from the University to help celebrate and mark the occasion.
“Our two institutions have a special relationship, sharing whakapapa. We are excited to have been there for Western Springs College – Ngā Puna o Waiōrea’s pivotal milestone,” he says.
“Its co-governance constitution is a first for New Zealand, and I have faith that its students will help lead us to a great future.”
