Schools with students, both domestic and international, who have not been able to travel to New Zealand as a result of the novel coronavirus outbreak, will be able to access Te Kura, to ensure their students can continue their education.
For schools with domestic students currently unable to return to New Zealand, the Ministry of Education has created a new emergency enrolment entry to Te Kura so that they can access government funding for dual tuition at Te Kura.
Schools with international students who are not yet able to travel to New Zealand, but are already enrolled at a New Zealand school, can access the existing dual fee-paying gateway.
The new Te Kura gateway – Emergency: COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) became available on Monday, 17 February.
The Chief Executive of Te Kura, Mike Hollings, says all state and state-integrated schools will be able to register domestic students aged 5 to 19, who are already registered at their school, if those students cannot enter New Zealand due to travel disruptions or restrictions related to the COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) outbreak.
There will be no subject limit and no cap on the number of students eligible for dual tuition through this gateway.
Mr Hollings says he’s confident Te Kura will be able to help students affected by the coronavirus outbreak. “It’s not the first time we have been called on in circumstances outside the norm.
“After the Christchurch earthquakes we were able to support students whose schools were unable to keep operating due to damage.”
