InsideOUT are hosting a workshop, funded by the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand, for anyone wanting to make changes in their school to create more inclusive environments for rainbow young people. This is a great chance to connect with other schools and learn from each other about creating safe environments. By working together to celebrate our rainbow diversity, we can prevent and stop homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying in schools.

The workshop will focus on tips for starting and sustaining a rainbow diversity group or queer straight alliance, and is suitable for groups of all stages. We will also look at key initiatives and events your school can take part in throughout the year, like Pink Shirt Day, an annual bullying prevention campaign run by the Mental Health Foundation. We’ll explore the Pink Shirt Day tagline ‘Speak Up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying’ and give you practical ways to use it within your school. We’ll explore what you want to achieve in your school and help you set goals for the year ahead.

InsideOUT is a national charity with the vision for all young people of minority sexualitites, genders and sex characteristics to have a sense of safety and belonging in their schools and communities.

Pink Shirt Day is a bullying prevention campaign run by the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand. It originated in Canada in 2007 after two students took a stand against homophobic bullying and mobilised their whole school when a student was harassed and threatened for wearing pink. In New Zealand, it aims to create environments where all people feel safe, valued and respected regardless of age, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability or cultural background. Pink Shirt Day will be held on Friday 22 May 2020. Learn more and register your involvement.
