Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises State Highway 2 remains closed southbound between Waihi Road off-ramp and Takatimu Drive this morning, following a fatal Police firearms incident last night.

These closures are expected to remain in place well into the day. State Highway 2 remains open for northbound motorists.

Detours for southbound traffic will remain in place until further notice. City-bound traffic from Bethlehem should turn left onto Waihi Road, then follow SH2 through to Takitimu Dr on-ramp or continue on Waihi Road then turn right onto Cameron Road for SH29A south.

People are encouraged to visit the Transport Agency’s Journey Planner website for up-to-date information about the closure and detour, at www.journeys.nzta.govt.nz/bay-of-plenty(external link).

The Transport Agency thanks motorists for their patience.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey this summer. Keep up to date with:
