23 JANUARY 2020FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union is congratulating the Government for sidelining a pre-election promise to use more timber in its building projects. “Phil Twyford is perfectly justified in sending this promise to the wood chipper. He should continue to resist demands from New Zealand First and the timber industry, who are attempting to politicise procurement processes.”“From a taxpayer perspective, it is essential the Government protect the integrity of public spending, and not bend to the lobbying of a well organised industry lobby.” “Politicians shouldn’t be biased towards one building material or another. Their key consideration should be delivering value for taxpayers – not pleasing a favoured business sector.”
