A new bursary has been announced that aims to support teacher education students looking to teach in secondary schools across the country.

The bursary, named the Te Kura Toi Tangata Secondary School Future Teacher Bursary, is for domestic students enrolling in full-time study at the University of Waikato.

The first recipients will be nominated by the Pro Vice-Chancellor Division of Education, Professor Don Klinger and a Teacher Education Selection Panel, and the bursary value is $1,000 towards the recipients’ tuition fees. Recipients’ grade point average will also be considered.

“We’re excited to be able to offer some additional support to our future and current teaching students, to lighten their financial load and make it easier to focus on their study,” says Pro Vice-Chancellor Division of Education, Don Klinger.

“Even better, this funding is available for those looking to study in 2020, including those looking to complete a Graduate Diploma in Teaching so now’s the time to get into our secondary school teaching programmes,” says Professor Klinger.

If you are eligible for this bursary and would like to be considered, read more here and get in touch with the Scholarships team at scholarships@waikato.ac.nz to voice your interest.
