17 JANUARY 2020FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Responding to reports that RNZ is setting up a new music station focused at youth, New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union spokesman Louis Houlbrooke says: “Nobody is asking for taxpayer-funded techno, so why is it on RNZ’s agenda? Taxpayer-supported music stations are redundant in a time when musicians more easily find audiences on Spotify or Youtube.” “If anything, RNZ should be closing its existing music station, not opening a new one. We all fork out for RNZ Concert, but in a typical week only 4 percent of us tune in.”
