Ōrākei Local Board is making roads safer for its communities. The Community Safety Fund, allocated by Auckland Transport, will see an investment of $800,000 into road safety improvements in the local board area.
The fund is distributed across Auckland’s 21 local boards specifically for road safety improvements and was launched following the introduction of fuel tax.
Ōrākei Local Board Chair Kit Parkinson says the local board identified a number of sites in need of safety improvements following discussion with schools across the area.
The local board then worked with Auckland Transport to prioritise the sites based on community need and accident statistics.
Funding will be given to road safety improvements outside Mt Carmel and Kohimarama schools and along Abbotts Way outside Waiatarua Reserve which is a school bus walking route.
Crossings will be introduced or upgraded alongside additional safety measures.
