The compensation and cost award tables have been released for the first half of 2019.
The compensation award table sets out the levels of compensation for personal grievance claims awarded by the Employment Relations Authority and Employment Court under s123(1)(c)(i) of the Employment Relations Act 2000. Under this section, compensation is for humiliation, loss of dignity, or injury to the feelings of the employee.
The cost award table shows the levels of costs awarded to employers and employees investigated by the Employment Relations Authority.
Over the January to June 2019 period, compensation was awarded to 68 claims. This represented an 8% decrease in the number of claims awarded, compared to the same period last year.
However, the 2019 period saw a significant number of claims with compensation awarded at the highest level. 11 out of 68 claims (16%) were awarded over $25,000 in the 2019 first half whilst there were only 3 out of 74 (4%) claims reaching this level in the same period last year.
The compensation and cost award tables are published on a half-yearly basis.
