A new land transport rule, recently approved by Cabinet, gives bus operators more flexibility when it comes to applying the new break rules set in the Employment Relations Amendment Act 2018.

Under the Act, all employees must be given set rest and meal breaks, based on the number of hours worked, to help them work safely and productively. Some limited exemptions may apply for some workers in specified essential services or national security services.
