The NZ Transport Agency has immediately suspended vehicle inspector John Murdoch and his Glenfield-based inspecting organisation North Harbour Brakes and Steering Ltd.

The Agency found evidence that the vehicle inspector was not correctly checking safety systems on vehicles during his WoF assessments, including brakes, seatbelts and lights. A vehicle was also incorrectly issued with a WoF despite extensive corrosion. In addition, the Agency found that John Murdoch had issued a WoF for his own car despite it having non-compliant tinted overlays.

Due to the concerns around the quality of John Murdoch’s inspections, there is a strong possibility that some vehicles may have been incorrectly passed.

For this reason, we strongly encourage people who have a current WoF issued from North Harbour Brakes and Steering Ltd. to get their vehicles rechecked.

The Agency will contact around 400 affected vehicle owners individually as soon as possible to advise them on recheck options. Vouchers will be provided.
