This page contains about the relocation of Whangarei’s TAB.

Updated: 12/06/2019 12:00 a.m.

After 12 years in the same location, Whangārei’s TAB has moved.

The initial lease of the current building to NZ Racing Board (TAB) started in June 2007, with the Council lease for the TAB section of Vine Street Car Park starting at the same time. NZ Racing Board gave notice to vacate the site in August 2018, and TAB has now relocated to the Triple Crown Bar premises on Vine Street /Quality Street.

There will be a few changes on the old TAB site, as the TAB building itself has been sold, and the new owners are now in the process of removing it.  The building was designed to be relocatable in two parts, making for easier removal from its city centre location. Contractors have been hard at work ensuring the process runs smoothly, with as little disruption as possible to surrounding premises, pedestrians and traffic.

Access to the Vine Street car park is not expected to be affected, and best of all, the resulting cleared area will be reinstated into more car parking spaces over the following month. The area will be cleared and ready for use soon – now that’s something you can bet on.
