A sunny day, seven skips bins and a fired up barbeque helped Housing New Zealand Tenancy Managers and Maintanence Supervisors work with tenant’s in Teo Lane and Tioro Lane in Mangere, Auckland to remove rubbish and learn how to keep their streets and homes tidy.
The Teo / Tioro Lane Community day held on 15 February included house washing, moss treatments, gutter cleaning, and the removal of illegally dumped rubbish in both lanes.
Housing New Zealand contractor Spotless provided the skip bins for event and got busy door knocking on tenants doors to see if there was any maintanence work they could do on the day.
The Auckland Council team from Making the Most of Waste.co.nz also came along and chatted with tenants about the benefits of recycling, how to best manage inorganic rubbish and how to report illegal dumping. Trays of sausages were served up along with snacks and drinks to make the event fun and encourage tenants to come out and have a friendly chat with the Mangere team.
Area Manager, Miranda said the event was a great success thanks to the collaboration with Spotless and Auckland Council.
“The feedback from tenants on the day was really positive. They appreciated having the opportunity to get rid of their rubbish and get some maintanence work done. Having Auckland Council and Spotless there really boosted the event and helped encourage tenants to work with us.”
