Keeping water flowing to Kaeo households and businesses is the aim of an inter-agency response to a private water supplier’s decision to cease trading.

Wai Care Environmental Consultants has notified its 23 customers in Kaeo that it will stop supplying water to them from 23 November.

Discussions aimed at providing a drinking water supply beyond 23 November are now underway between Wai Care, the Northland District Health Board and the Far North District Council.

The District Health Board is keeping the Ministry of Health informed of the situation.

The Council will be in touch with Wai Care Customers about possible options within the next seven days.

The Kaeo town water supply was originally owned by the Far North District Council before being sold to the Doubtless Bay Water Company in 2000.

The Doubtless Bay Water Company sold the supply to Wai Care in 2008.

The water supply currently supplies 23 properties – nine are residential, 10 are commercial and four are community buildings.
