Police executed a search warrant on a Wanaka building site yesterday and recovered a substantial amount of timber, scaffolding and a large amount of other building material and builders’ tools.

We would like to return these materials and tools to their rightful owners.

A 22-year-old Wanaka man has been charged with two building-site burglaries and two commercial storage-yard burglaries in the Queenstown and Wanaka area, and is likely to face further charges. He will be appearing in the Queenstown District Court on Monday 15 October.

These burglaries were committed over the last three months where several thousand dollars’ worth of building supplies and equipment was stolen.

Other equipment recently recovered includes: a container that was filled with builders’ equipment and machinery; a Hyundai digger and two trailers; as well as drop saws, generators, nail guns, scaffolding, a vast array of power tools, wooden boxing and general building equipment.

Police would like to hear from tradespeople and building retailers who may have lost building equipment or supplies over the last several months.

The seized items will be held at the Wanaka Police station and can be inspected there upon arrangement – phone the station on (03) 443 7272.

We encourage tradespeople to secure all equipment at night, record the serial numbers of tools, and engrave their equipment with identifying marks.

You can photograph and register the details and serial numbers of your important items at www.snap.org.nz

If you see a crime taking place call 111 immediately, and report any suspicious activity to Police.
