Correction to Well-being statistics: 2016 – 27 September 2018

Well-being statistics: 2016 was corrected on 27 September 2018.

Stats NZ has republished three sets of tables in Well-being statistics: 2016 to correct an error. This was due to a processing issue affecting ethnicity data. The error only affects 2016 New Zealand General Social Survey (GSS) data.

Most estimates in the tables have been updated. However, almost all changes are small and well within sample errors, so are not statistically significant.

Well-being statistics: 2016 includes links to the corrected data, along with differences from the originally published estimates.

There is no impact on GSS data published before the 2016 release. The 2018 GSS, which is currently in the collection phase, will also not be affected.

Stats NZ is an open and transparent organisation and corrects errors as soon as practicable. We have rigorous processes to check data before publication.

Stats NZ reviews any error to reduce and mitigate future risks. The lessons learned from this error will be used to guide future development of GSS and other surveys.

Stats NZ regrets the error and apologises for any inconvenience caused.
