Headline: Community to discuss Paihia beach parachute landings
The Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community Board will hold a public meeting to discuss a skydiving company’s plan to make tandem skydive landings on two Paihia beaches.
Skydive Bay of Islands wants to use Waitangi Beach (opposite the Puketona Road roundabout) and Paihia Beach (opposite the Anchorage Motel) for skydive landings.
It says that, as a tourism provider, it wants to be more visible to visitors to the Bay of Islands – something it finds difficult from its base at Bay of Islands Airport.
Landings would occur several times a week to several times a day, depending upon demand.
The community board will hold a public meeting at the Paihia Memorial Hall on Wednesday 16 August at 5:30pm to allow Skydive Bay of islands to address concerns the community might have.
Skydive Bay of Islands has gained approval for its plan from Northland Regional Council and the Civil Aviation Authority.
