Kia ora, Friends,
We’ve got lots on in the lead to the Weapons Expo & Warships visit, and we could really use your help getting some peace work done this week. Check out the events & asks below and decide what you can do.
Parihaka Day Peace Action Conference
Saturday, 5 November 10am-3:30pm
Auckland Central Library
This one-day conference is an inclusive and conversational space covering topics including the legacy of Parihaka, colonialism today, global peace and justice movements, Islamophobia and militarism in the Pacific. Speakers include Parihaka descendant & filmmaker Paora Joseph, Pacific scholar Teresia Teaiwa, MP Marama Davidson on her journey to Gaza, and Emilie Rākete from No Pride in Prisons. Free & open to the public. Facebook event here.
Social media activism – get busy
The most important part of the Week of Peace is getting as many people along as possible to support both the blockade of the weapons expo and the on-water flotilla against the warships. You can help make that happen by inviting friends to our events & sharing and retweeting our stuff on social media. This helps us to reach new audiences and amplifies the messages that profiting and glorifying war is not OK. Here’s a complete list of events, which you can copy & email, too!
Musicians, poets & artists wanted!
On Wednesday, 16 Nov we’re creating a human peace zone around the weapons expo by blockading the Events Centre. We would love to have some wonderful peace performances of music, poetry, creative displays (martial arts, yoga, face painting, etc). If you are interested in helping to create a lively family-friendly atmosphere, please email us: aucklandpeaceaction or send us a message on facebook.
Peace Flotilla facebook event
Details of the on-water peace flotilla are still being finalised for 17 November, but a facebook event has been created. Please consider being involved either on the water, or on land supporting the sailors, surfers and swimmers! And be sure to invite your family and friends on the facebook page.
Can you billet visiting peace activists?
Folks from out of town will be coming to Auckland to take part in the aucklandpeaceaction or send us a message on facebook
Titirangi Public Meeting
3 pm Sunday 30 Oct
Te Uru Gallery, Level 2 (420 Titirangi Rd)
Westies, come find out how we work for a world without war. Waitakere Peace Action is hosting a meeting to discuss taking action at the upcoming Weapons Expo & warship visit. Speakers from the Peace Foundation, Auckland Peace Action & Nuclear-Free New Zealand will be there. Facebook event here.
Some cash support
We’re creating some resources to use at our upcoming Week of Peace Action, and we need a bit of financial support. You can donate any amount to our account: Auckland Peace Action, Kiwibank 38-9017-0840541-00 or by credit card here.
Thanks for being part of a movement for peace & justice.
