Calling interns

The SMS team at the 2016 Opening Night and Awards Ceremony

We have three opportunities for outstanding people to join our team that make Show Me Shorts happen each year.

  1. Festival Intern
  2. Marketing Intern
  3. Events Intern

We are looking for bright, proactive, conscientious, film-loving individuals who can assist us and learn about how a film festival works.

Applicants will need to be organised, punctual, resourceful, energetic, eager to learn, calm under pressure and have warm feelings about colour-coded spreadsheets. Interns will also need to have their own laptop as some work will be done remotely, and preferably have a driver’s license too.

The hours are flexible, ideally in two blocks of five hours (10hrs per week) at our CBD office where we will provide access to computer equipment, WIFI and other services as required. The role will commence immediately and conclude in December 2017 after we wrap up the festival analysis and reporting. September onwards is our busiest period, and during the festival in October/November we would need you to be available to work some additional evenings and weekends to assist with screenings and special events.

The Festival Intern will help with the production of the festival, including:

  • General correspondence
  • Data entry and spreadsheet organisation
  • Assisting with funding applications
  • Liaising with filmmakers and cinemas
  • Helping coordinate post-production requirements
  • Meeting censorship obligations
  • Attending events and screenings

The Marketing Intern will help us spread the word about the festival and our events, including:

  • General correspondence
  • Assisting with marketing and promotion
  • Assisting in the coordination of marketing, design and print deliverables
  • Market research
  • Copy writing – website and social media, email newsletters
  • Community outreach
  • Attending events and screenings

The Events Intern will help us organise and put on our special events, including:

  • General correspondence
  • Event planning and delivery support (Opening Nights, Short Film Talks, Short Film Lab, School Group Screenings)
  • Creating lists and spreadsheets
  • Assisting with promotion of events
  • Liaising with event stakeholders

These are unpaid opportunities, but the festival will offer at the conclusion of the internship:

  • A written reference
  • Flexible working hours to fit around work or study
  • The opportunity to learn how a world-class film festival operates
  • Any out-of-pocket expenses reimbursed
  • The chance to work with a fun team of volunteers and be a part of an exciting national event

To apply email your CV and cover letter to Mark Prebble at info@showmeshorts.co.nz by 5pm May 5, 2017.
