The Māori Provider Development Scheme (MPDS) provides organisational development support for Māori health and disability providers; and financial assistance to students undertaking health related tertiary studies through the Hauora Māori Scholarships.

Māori providers apply for MPDS funding using the Māori Provider Capacity Assessment Tool (MPCAT), a self-assessment tool that each provider uses to identify their capacity strengths and weaknesses, and indicate areas for further development.

From 2013/14 to June 2016, MPDS funding was allocated to providers across the following categories:

  • Information Technology (eg, software applications, IT hardware, networking cabling and IT development)
  • Infrastructure Support (eg, clinical and office equipment, public relations/promotion, strategic planning)
  • Workforce Development (eg, clinical / non-clinical training, governance/management training)
  • Service Integration (eg, support for service level alliances, communications/outreach relationships)
  • Quality (eg, accreditation/certification, external review of policies/procedures, audit review preparation)
  • Best Practice Models (eg, development of best practice materials for internal use, development of best practice materials to be shared with others).

From July 2016, MPDS funding categories aligned with the MPCAT category areas:

  • Māori Organisation Values and Philosophy.
  • Mission, Strategy and Planning.
  • Service Design and Evaluation.
  • Human Resources.
  • Information Technology.
  • Financial Management.
  • Governance and Leadership.
  • Communications and External Relations.

2013/14 to 2016/17 MPDS funding amounts for Māori providers by DHB and national Māori organisations are presented in the downloadable file.  Annual amounts for Hauora Māori Scholarships are also included.  All amounts are GST exclusive.

Note: 2016/17 amounts are current as at 22 February 2017 and will not be finalised until the end of the financial year.
